Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

When someone said to me that "a shot of apple cider vinegar a day is healthy for you", I looked at them like they were either crazy or trying to prank me.

But believe it or not, a shot a day is exactly what your body needs - scientific studies have shown that it has a range of health benefits, including weight loss, reduced cholesterol, lower blood sugar levels and improved symptoms of diabetes. I now take a shot a day in the morning before or during my first coffee.

And here's why -

1. It naturally reduces your appetite

Several human studies show that vinegar can increase satiety, help you eat fewer calories and lead to actual pounds lost on the scale. It helps aid a sense of natural fullness during meal times (perfect in conjunction with the FlabJab!).

2. It reduces belly-fat

In a study of 175 British people with obesity, a daily shot of apple cider vinegar led to a reduction in belly fat, waist circumference and weight, ranging from 2.6lbs to 3.6lbs per two weeks.

Bearing in mind, it's the entire diet/lifestyle that counts and you need to combine several effective methods to see results.

3. It helps regulate your blood sugar

High blood sugar can be a problem in people who don't have diabetes. It is believed to be a major cause of ageing and various chronic diseases. Pretty much everyone should benefit from keeping their blood sugar levels in the normal range. The most effective (and healthiest) way to do that is to avoid refined carbs and sugar, but apple cider vinegar can also have a powerful effect by improving insulin function and lower blood sugar levels after meals.

4. Lowers cholesterol & promotes a healthy heart

It is known that several biological factors are linked to either a decreased or increased risk of heart disease. However, several of these "risk factors" can be improved by vinegar consumption.

It can also help lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, alongside reducing your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. All in all, it helps reduce these "risk factors" for heart disease.

5. A low-calorie provider of potassium, antioxidants and amino acids

Apple cider vinegar is made by fermenting the sugar from apples. This turns them into acetic acid, which is the active ingredient in vinegar. Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar contains strands of protein, enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria, helping your gut to stave off the bad bacteria and process food effectively. With the added bonus of potassium and antioxidants, one little shot a day can give you that little boost you need.
